Help! My Toshiba M35X-S149 motherboard died & I don't want to spend $450 to replace it. According to the specs on the computer the hard drive is "portable"/user removeable. Is it possible to remove it, have it backed up & when I receive my new laptop, download those files? It may not be something I can do myself but I don't want to spend $50 for a tech to tell me that it can't be done.

You should be able to open up the laptop, remove the HDD, and put it in a 2.5" enclosure, then just plug it into the new laptop, relatively simple, just be very careful with the drive, or you could lose some or all files.

If you have to put it down put it on an anti-static bag, and only touch it by the outer casing.
