| As person that carries my laptop around a lot, I would say its important to think about the size/weight too. Although a 15inch gives you lots of screen real estate it can be a pain if you are going to carry it around a lot as they tend to be pretty heavy. I carry mine maybe 2-5 times a week and in the past 3 years I've moved from a 15 inch, to a 14 and now have an 11inch. I found the 15inch and the 14inch way too heavy to carry around alot. In weight terms I went from 3kg, to 2kg, to 1kg. The 11inch is much more practical, and I can use it on the train without any hassle. battery life is excellent too.

The smaller laptops though do tend to be less powerful so this has to be born in mind too. I also have a desktop so its not an issue for me. I use the laptop for day to day stuff, like word processing, spereadsheets, web surfing, music, and watching movies. For any large demanding tasks I use the desktop. My friend has a 12inch laptop. It his only computer and he also carries it around a lot. Like me he used to have a bigger one, but when he upgraded he went on a mission to find something smaller. He said he was tired of carrying around the weight around and since he got it he has never looked back. Basically what I'm saying is that he should be very clear about the usage of the laptop before he buys it. If he has to carry something around a lot then size, weight and battery life are going to be very important factors, especially if you tasks are only day to day stuff. 2.5kg - 3kg will not be nice carry around on a regular basis - I speak from experience. On the other hand if its something that will stay in the same place, or at least wont be carried around much, and will have to do lots of demanding tasks then something bigger and more powerful is better - weight and battery life wont be such an issue. | hi guys hows it going? i've had a revised brief from my man, he says he is interested in video/film editing he has expressed interest in a mac laptop but is undecided as he has not used one (and i know nothing of them) i know a lot of people use macs for video editing, but can you get software for pc's which is as good or better than macs for video editing? he works with pc's and wants to work from home and take his work (text documents, music and film/video work) into work on a portable hard drive. it is important that all his work is compatible with his work pc's, are there a lot of incompatibility problems between pc's and macs? thanks guys EDIT: he doesn't want to play games, so he doesn't need a dedicated graphics card for that, but would he need one for film/video editing? also he says he would like a large screen, not too bothered about carrying it around |
