Hi,

I've started having problems with my IBM Thinkpad T41. Last night, without warning, it suddenly shut down, with no error message, I'd just be browsing one second, and the next second there's a black screen. I thought it might be a one off and rebooted the system, but it would turn off within a couple of minutes, never longer than half an hour. I kept on rebooting but it would keep losing power, eventually leading up to where it would shut down before I had the chance to sign in to my account, which led me to believe the problem wasn't due to overheating, however, when I placed a book on the back end of the laptop to allow the laptop to cool, it is lasting a lot longer. I have had an error message telling me the problem is due to the ATI Graphics driver, and I've downloaded the software Windows has told me to, and I think I can't upload my driver any further.

Any help?
Thanks

Yup, standard overheating problem.

On the bottom of the lappy there should be a few plates and under them will be some fans.

Clean them out.

Thanks for the help, but even after I've let it cool down overnighht it will still go to standby (correction from last post - I don't think it shuts down, it goes into standby instead, but I cannot bring back my screen without restarting) Is this normal in overheating problems? If so, can anyone give me any help on how to get to the fans of the IBM Thinkpad T41 and how to properly clean the fans?
Thanks again
