Hi there,
Wondering if someone could help me out on this. My Laptop (Acer Aspire 1670: 3.4GHz CPU Pent4, 1GB RAM, 80GB Hard drive) shuts down from time to time. Sometimes it takes a couple of hours to shut down and sometimes it shuts down very quickly, most notably when i use Skype. I ' ve come to the conclusion that when the CPU is in greater use, the system heats up more than it's supposed to and so shuts down. Its funny that i ve had this problem about 2 years ago. I went to get it fixed, i can't remember the fault but i had to change the hard drive? Does anyone have any opinions? Ian |

Clean your internal fans, it's overheating probably.

I just opened it up and the fans look clean, no dust. Are there any other possibilities for it to shutdown?

Old thermal paste not working as well as before, perhaps. But you can only do so much when you've got a Pentium 4 shoved into a laptop: those things are hot. Even a netbook would provide similar enough performance and be a lot cooler!
