Default Laptop trouble . . .Help!

OK after turning on the laptop i get to the login screen ( Normal windows XP login)
But the mouse pad dosent work so i got out the USB mouse plugged it in and that worked. CLicked on the user go to type in password but the letters dont work on the keyboard!!
What has happenned and how do i go about fixing it? is there a button which licks the keyboard? its in Acer Aspire laptop.

Im on a PC by the way if you was wondering how i can type this

You could try starting in safemode and see if it works then or buy a USB keyboard as well and once you get into it have a look through the keyboard settings

You need a keyboard for booting up in safe mode, you need to press F8 i think it is during boot up, but if the keyboard doesn't work, you can't do that, I would try using a different keyboard (possibly from the computer that you are on now (get permision from whoever's computer it is first ) then try using that to log on, see if that works. Also, if the laptop is still within warrenty, try talking to acer see if they will repair it.

This happens to my PC , boot your laptop and continuously tap the down arrow key, if you get to the log on screen and are still tapping the down arrow key then your problem is different to mine, if your displayed some options whilst tapping the arrow key during boot up then list them here.
