Im struggling with my laptop. Its my internet, gaming device, and music player at home, and i also have to take it to work, so its causing a problem.

The other day i plugged it in whilst it was running, but it wouldnt charge, it just ran the battery until it was dead, then turned off, now it wont charge at all. Im a bit confused as it what it is. When i plug the charger in the small green light on the transformer lights up, so that is getting power, and the charge light on the front of the laptop flashes for a split second, then turns off. I attempted to use my brothers charger and the charge light on the front flashed for 5-10mins, then turned off again. Although that charger was not designed for this laptop, and so probably didnt do it any favours.

So, what do people think? Do i need a new charger? Or has the battery given up on me?

Laptop batteries are notoriously crap, get a new one mate.

Also if the laptop works on the mains then it isn't the charger.

Thats the thing, it doesnt work on the mains either. If i remove the battery and plug it straight into the mains then it does nothing at all.

My mate has the exact same laptop, so on Monday i'm going to attempt to use his charger and see if that does anything.

Knowing my luck the battery AND charger will have died. and im assuming that these aren't cheap to replace?

Try his charger, if it still doesn't run the laptop has a fault and is probably best replaced depending on age.

If it does run get a new charger.

It was purchased through work on a 'home computing initiative' and so it is still under warrenty.

I called them today. Firstly they advised that i try the new charger, which i will do tomorrow. If they does not work then they do not believe it is the battery, as this ran it ok until it ran out of steam, and so they think that the PSU is broken as it will not charge the battery.

The good news is that if this is the case i will be recieving a brand new laptop. The bad news is that i will lose everything that is on the old one as they require it back, and so i will not have enough time to retrieve my files from it. Luckily everything of important has been backed up
