Title says it all really, I'm not looking to be able to do all my work on it, so I expect it to be slightly sluggish - but I need to be able to open a basic file on the said programs and tweeter around a bit.

As far as I'm aware this pretty much puts me down to two processors (Intel wise anyway) the N270 or N280. I'm happy to overclock, by doing which I should be able to get above Adobe's stated min requirements. I have looked at a few candidates, but I want to know your input without biasing any views by telling you what I've looked at. It must be under £500 (About $800 ??) But lets be honest - if it's more than that it's a laptop in a netbook form factor... The screen must be decent - glossy or matte - And definatly under 13". 9" or 10" favorable. I hate these 13.3" £1000 "netbooks" - nonsense. My System: FordyPC

1.You wont be able to overclock a netbook at all
2.Samsung NC10 is your best bet 3. I wouldn't want to try and use any program on a netbook really, I just got a eeepc and I hate it lol, too small to do anything but browse......and that can even be a chore some times

I dunno, Photoshop on my NC10 runs okay. They're all going to be about the same though, since they all use the same guts.

@SW
You can overclock.. I said about getting the N270/80 above Adobe's min because the min. requirement is 1.8GHz N270 stock is @ 1.6 and N280 is @ 1.66 I've read threads about people OC'ing them and getting 1.86 --> 2GHz Anyway, maybe some BIOS flashing is needed or something I don't know. And thanks Carbon, that's great to hear actually, maybe I'll just grab whatever then based on price/other features I want and see how it does. Thanks both of you, Ollie. |

For the past six months I have been using an ASUS Eee PC 1000HD, which is a 10" netbook, using a 900 Mhz Celeron M CPU. I run Windows XP from a magnetic hard drive and I have 2 gigs of RAM.
I run Adobe Illustrator CS3 without any problems whatsoever. The same goes for Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Acrobat 9.0. I haven't tried Dreamweaver or Flash. The only "warning" I have seen was while installing Illustrator. The installer had me bump up my screen resolution to 1024x768 (which requires scrolling) in order to install. However after I completed installation I dropped the native resolution back down to 1024x600 and I can see all of the standard panels and tools just fine, even in Panel View. At work I run a 2.8 Ghz Pentium 4, and the only time I notice a significant difference (other than screen size) is when my illustrator files start to get really busy - however there have only been a few files that has been an issue with. There are better ASUS Eee PCs available right now, however the bottleneck on netbooks is the Atom CPU. There are is at least one ultra-portable with the AMD Neo dual core, which seems to do well in benchmarks but has much shorter battery life than the Intel Atom processors. |

Thanks Insomnia, and welcome to the forums.
That's great to hear ![]() Especialy as you use it regularly, and have no problems on a lower specc'ed netbook than I would buy now. Thanks all of you, pretty interested in a few, Acer D150 or 531, Asus 1006HV or T91, and the Samsung NC10. |
