So.. its getting summer and i don't want to be cramped up in my room all the time.

So i'm buying a laptop. The problem is i know nothing about laptops.

I'm basicly looking for one that i connect to my router and my friends router and one that can handle playing world of warcraft on at least decent graphical settings ( medium - high non raiding ).

But like i said i know nothing about them so. Which would you buy:

which OS?
Mac or Windows
Which brand?
What CPU's, GPU's and ram?

I'm looking for one, quite cheap. Just enough.

Hey there,

if you're mostly gaming I'd say you want windows, and personally I prefer it anyway :D
for depreciation, software compatibilty and keeping "with it" purposes I'd say go Vista, but XP would be alright.

As far as brands go you can't go wrong with Dell, good prices, good products and very helpful for you to know what one exactly to get if you're still confused.

For CPU if you want to run Vista you'll need at least 1GB, preferably 2, but if you're gaming I'd say definatly 2GB, theres nothing more annoying than the game freezing suddenly..

And GPU if you look on the Dell website and go into the XPS or XPS Gaming (depending how much you want to spend) with just the standard spec they'll both be pretty good graphics wise, it just depend how serious you are as a gamer and how much you want to spend.

Hope this helped, Ollie.

I've never heard that, I have always bought from them and never felt ripped off, they may seem expensive compared to PC world own-brand (I forget the name.. something cheesy like Xtreme Machines i think..) but you get something much sleeker, better quality, and free support if something goes wrong.

Can you give us the requirements WOW needs, for those of us who don't play it then we can have a little look around for you, and can you also give us a max budget, so we know that to look for.

I was actually quite excited to spend my whole 200 pounds on a laptop before i saw the expensiveness of them.
For a decent one i have to fork out more than 500 pounds!

Well.. around 200 pounds maybe 300 max. Parents say 100 pounds but i don't think they know how much laptops cost :P

The requirements are very little:

PC:
  • Processor: 800MHz or higher CPU.
  • RAM: 256Mb or more.
  • Video: GeForce 2 or better
  • Hard Drive Space: 3Gb or more available.
  • DirectX 9.0 or above.

hmm, well you won't get anything good (atleast new) for £100, £200 is getting closer, £300 we could probably get something. After a quick look, you could probably get away with anything here however some have a very small hard drive size, so you might have to invest in a portable external hdd as well. (the reason why they have such small hdd capacities is because they are solid state)

yea, they are made for the "ultra portable" catagory it all depends what you need from it, but those were all the laptops they sell in your price range.
