hi all, new to all this, had a laptop about 18 months, its a dell latitude d600, its very slow, ive been told its got less than 1 gig memory on it, what do i need to get to speed it up, from where, and how much can i expect to pay, sorry if this is all a bit mundane, but any help would be great, many thanks

On the bottom there should be a sort of flap/cover with a screw hole in it - check the symbol by it though - you don't want he battery one.

Just by yourself a stick or two from Amazon - you can get 2GB for under £30

Search something like "Laptop RAM SODIMM" and you should get a load of various sizes and prices to choose from.
