Default OS on TOSHIBA satelite

Hello, I have recently bought a toshiba laptop with vista on it. I used to work with 2 XP partitions( OS and data) and 3 linux partitions(root, home, swap). I want to do the same on
my laptop, but i heard if i remove the preinstalled Vista i will have trouble with the drivers..big trouble on toshibas. I need to have both windows and linux running. To make things worse i need to insall a fedora core image on a VMWare ( Virtaul machine) so i can simulate a CELL processor on it (long story and 6 GB to download)

Q1:what does the recovery partition EXACTLY do? does it recover anything, includeing Vista Premium if i format it? And what type of partition is it?(case i want to create more partitions on my drive for linux)

Q2:Can vista coexist with linux on the same hard?
And can windows vista run VMWare?(i have 2GB RAM and duo core 1,87GHz)

Thank you. Hope someone will have patience to help.

Q1. The recovery partion is there so that if anything should happen with Vista, it can be reset back to factory Setting. They done this to reduce money in making recovery CDs/DVDs

Q2. Windows Vista can coexist with Linux and Windows Vista should be able to run VMWare
