Hey
I need some help with my laptop. I recently updated my BIOS due to some issues with switching from Windows 7 back to XP. The problem is ever since the BIOS update my laptop is dead. At first when I pressed the power button the machine would turn on and the fans would be on but the screen would be totally black. Since nothing was happening I unplugged it and took off the main battery for awhile. Once I put the battery back on and plugged in power the system now starts for less than a second and turns off (still nothing on the screen). There are no beeps, just about a second of power to the mobo and thats it. I've taken apart the laptop (Toshiba Satellite M40) and found the CMOS battery is soldered to the motherboard. Am I out of luck? Anything else I can try? Please help! Thanks! |

Even if the CMOS battery was detachable there would be nothing you could do. The BIOS is stored on flash, it is for obvious reasons not based on the CMOS battery's power or else every time you did a CMOS removal you would have to find some way to get the BIOS back on there. There's not a whole lot you can do besides send it back, as far as I know.
