Hi, I just replaced the LCD inverter on my dv1000 because my back light stopped working. I have a few problems...

I have to attempt to boot up my laptop multiple times before the lcd will finally turn on. When it finally turns on it makes a little high pitched noise...

Also, I noticed that the trim around the LCD where the new inverter was located seemed like it was getting really hot. I removed the lcd covering to investigate the inverter and I found that it was getting so hot it actually melted some of the plastic (heat or static shield??) around the chip.

Lastly (yes, theres more), the LCD will only even have a CHANCE of turning on if I have the ac power cord plugged into it. The LCD will not light up if the laptop is only running off the batteries...

Ahhh, this is very frustrating and any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

Sounds like the coil is the problem on your inverter, the coil boost the power for the backlight, if i were to hazzard a guess at what has been done to the coil as that it has been bridged to by pass the coil which would explain the heat, if this is or isn't the case i would not use that inverter as you could make your laptop go bang.

ZeroCool, thanks for responding!

I'm not sure if the coil is the problem(though I could EASILY be wrong). The plastic shield didn't melt by the coil but instead at the center of the inverter..right around a little black microchip. It didn't melt bad either just slightly caved in around one half of the microchip.

Also, I have had the laptop running for a few days now. I have the trim around the LCD off with the inverter exposed. It seems like its not overheating anymore but I don't know if that would change if it was cramped in under the trim again.

So yeah, I really have no idea. I'm thinking possibly I need to order a new inverter? Or maybe my computer battery is bad(it's a few years old but it holds charge fine).

I don't know, i'm just throwing some ideas out there. What do you think?

Melted bezel you need a new backlight and I'd bet it was starting to show a redish hue when it was starting up right? Sizzling or hissing noise is the bulb with a hot connex and gas depletion...
