My laptop has a ATI Radeon HD 3470 gfx card and its 256mb - so it says on the system information. We i run "Can you run it" on the internet it says for eg. if i got Far Cry 2 it says recommended 512mb you have a 1019mb gfx card? How is this?

Shared ram, possibly? I know some cards do it and they give it a strange name, but can't think of it.

I would trust the Windows spec listed in system properties over a website detecting it. Clearly it is detecting it wrong. If you did have a 1GB card windows would detect it in system information also.

The website is basically taking a guess at what your system runs...
