Sounds more like your graphics card has stopped working properly, must probably overheating, you should check to see if the fan is spinning properly and free of dust

thanks for the reply m8.
i think it is the graphics card i have had my laptop in bits and that is the logical answer.
you wouldn't know where i could get a replacement graphics card from or would you recommend just getting a new laptop? akso would changing the heat sink pads rectify anything? just a thought.
the graphics card is a ati mobility radeon x700

many thanks

I remember having a similar problem to this a while back i believe after a power surge.

The screen was changing colour and i couldn't see anything, i had remote desktop set up so i was able to access the computer via remote desktop perfectly which told me it was the display, or its drivers.

I went into device manager and reinstalled the display drivers and everything was perfect again, however you having anything set up on the computer that will allow you to access it remotley is probably small :(

Good luck in getting it fixed though bud!

David.
