Am hoping to upgrade the hard drive on my Philips Freevents x51 (60GB just isn't enough) but when I opened the screw-on cover on the bottom, I found it concealed only the fan, not the hard drive as expected. I'm thinking that I need take the machine apart completely to get at the HD, but don't want to do that if I don't have to.

Does anyone have any experience with this model? Any advice on how to get at the hard drive? More importantly, does anyone know if it's at all possible to replace the hard drive? The user manual is next to useless and there is no information about it that I can find either on the Philips site or on the net.

And finally, if it turns out that I CAN change the drive, any suggestions on what to go for? (make, specs, etc)

Thanks for your time

I am not familiar with the Laptop in question, but if it is going to be difficult to change why don't you just use an external

I have considered this, and that is my fallback option, but I travel a lot (really a lot!) with my work, and lugging a external around (even a compact light-weight one) is annoying. Thought I'd explore the options first, but if it ends up looking too difficult, that's what I'll do.

Your laptop may be a rebadged model mate - Twinhead stylebook D12. take a look at this link

http://www.twinhead.com.tw/product_notebook/12D.asp

Is it the same as yours? if so you may get more joy doing a search for this model. if it is the same then this gives a little more info about your HD.

Also here is some info about the x50. You have to read through a way but there is someone trying to do the same as you. I dont know how similar this model is to yours but it may help some. If it is then it doesnt look easy.

From the same forum as above. This may also be useful info. If this is right try googling this too see if it gives you any joy.
