Default Screen Goes Black

My son has a lap top which he has had for a couple of months now. Now and again when he is working on it the screen goes black and he has to switch off and then switch on again to get everything back. This does not happen every day, but happend twice yesterday. Does anyone have any idea what this problem could be and how to put it right. His OP is Vista.

Default Screen Goes Black

Are you sure it isn't just going to sleep or into hibernation due to inactivity?

Pretty sure it is not hibernating or going to sleep as this happend seconds after he was using it yesterday, also he said you can see the work still on the screen, but it is very very dark, you cannot see where the cursor is.

Well if it is faulty which it sounds like it could be and it is only a few months old, use the warranty.
