Some pratt (I suspect my brother) has gotten into my room and smashed the LCD on my Dell INspiron 1501 laptop. The colour is messed up, it's cracked right across the screen in about 20 different places, and there's something black and inky leaking inside the screen. And to top it all off - it's past it's warranty and has no insurance.
Does anyone know where to get a replacement for this partiular screen? I would have ahd more luck with finding one myself, but it's a nightmare tryig to see what you are doing on the screen, and Dells Support/Customer Service is terrible (and alsways has been). I would be very grateful if anyone could help. Thanks. (<-- don't know if that's a "smiley face" smiley that i clicked, because i cant see it properly, lol. ¬_¬)

eBay?

How old is the laptop, if it is old and you cannot swap the screens yourself then it will probably be way more economical to buy a new machine. My System: Hybr!d

it's a year old, and i could fit a screen myself no problem as long as i can find one. found 1 result on ebay which is quite expensive. i'll probably just keep checking ebay, and stay away from the dodgey-looking laptop repair websites.
Thanks! |

Well it isn't going to be a cheap part, which is why I said about it probably not being economical.
Can you claim on your house insurance maybe? |

Just ebayed it now and it looks like you'll not get it less than about £110 posted. Economical or not, you decide. :$

I checked the house insurance a while after the screen broke, and it cant be claimed. Well, anyway, on second thought, the screen isn't that expensive really, so i'll probably just go ahead and ebay one.
![]() And it wouldn't cause any problems to get a WSXGA/WSXGA+ to replace a WXGA, would it? I don't think so, but then again, I haven't had to much experience/expertise on notebook screens... Thanks for the help, btw

Dont buy a different screen to the one that broke! Or you'll face many problems with it which I dont need to go into because theyre fairly obvious and hopefully you'll read this and not buy a different one anyway.

Jimmy is right. Laptops are a lot different from Desktop computers. Your best bet is to call Dell or go to their website and report the damages. I also got crappy service with HP when my desktop broke so don't feel bad. -.- But I do like their chat thing they have on their website that lets you talk to a technician right there. Does Dell have anything like that?

Yes, dell certainly does have a live chat thingy. It is actually quite useful if you know what questions to ask.

Well someone recommended a good company quite near me who do Dell laptop repairs, and they said they have these screens in stock, so i'm gonna just take it down some day soon. Decided not to bother with Dell. I've had several Dell computers since about 2001 and i've had bad experiences of their customer services on each one.
I should consider a different brand next time i get a new pc/laptop i think. Although the Dells are very good. I've got an external PC moniter hooked up to my laptop atm which does me fine, but it kind of defeats the point of a laptop being mobile, so... ![]() Thanks for the help! |
