Recently, when I startup my laptop, the display is split into four section, I dont really even know how to describe what I am seeing, so i am just going to let the picture speak for itself.

The problem goes away after I restart the computer a few times. BTW I'm using an HP DV6654US running Vista Home Premium. Any input with this would help, as I'm totally stumped with this.

Picture doesn't load, regardless sounds like a hardware fault and cost to repair isn't likely to be economical due to high parts and labour costs with laptops.

Sorry, heres a picture of it anyway. And I was afraid of that, that it would be a hardware problem, since the split happens right from startup, and not when windows loads.

If it does it straight after power on before drivers get initiated then I would say hardware, if the machine is out of warranty the cost of diagnosis, a screen and labour etc it would be cheaper to buy a new laptop these days.

Alright, not good news, but thanks for your help anyway. I guess I'll try to keep it plugged in and powered on, since I got it running normally right now, and I'll keep a lookout on ebay for a cheap laptop that I can use to make repairs if I ever feel adventurous.

Hi mjaseatgp
Have you tried plugging a moniter into it? This will tell you if it's the screen or the graphics card.

Thanks for the idea, I just tried that and the other monitor looked fine when my laptop screen was split, so i assume its the screen. Any idea on how difficult it is to replace the screen with a replacement from another computer?

I couldn't see it being too easy.
I've seen laptop screens that come good by squeezing around the frame wit your fingers. Don't touch the screen itself, just the edges. No idea why it works, but one of mine goes from blank screen to full picture just by pinching the top corner of the frame.
Sorry i can't be more help
