Default Spontaneou System Death?

Ok so here is my problem:

My computer has been spontaneously crashing. I will be doing something, and it will just stop, and make a blank color screen (like a light blue). If there happens to be a song in the back ground, it well skip.

When this happens i have to do a hard reboot, and when i get back into vista, my resolution has been changed to mid settings. (1024x786) and my icons are all messed up.

Now im not sure what kind of problem this is (virus, system, hardware) so i will provide all information necessary for a solution

Hard ware:
Asus N80Vn Notebook
4gb Ram
Core 2 duo.
Have had since dec. 25, 08. (xmas present)

Virus protection:
Avast Home
With Malware bites installed

System:
Vista Home

Please help, i have already been through a computer hell with my old computer.

Thanks in advance

Sounds like your overheating
as Dave says have u cleaned all the fans and heatsinks
also ensure that you dont block any intake fans/grills when your useing it
Have you downloaded any updates recently causing a conflict?

updates: not that i know of. but there was this alert icon in my tray that i could not click on.

Graphics Card is a Navida GeForce 9650m GT, w/ 1Gb ram

The build was from the factory.

Dust: possible. There is a fan that moves air to the right side, it doesn't move it down. BUT there are 3 grills on the bottom. When all of these happened though the computer was propped up with a folded up fabric pace mat, wasnt covering the ENTIRE grill, but a little bit.
But i've only had it for a month... if it takes that short of a time for dust to accumulate that bad... I had a compaq and it never had that problem.

OS: the HELL im going to do that right now. Plus i dont have the vista disk. I havent looked at all the disks i have recently

You may have to create a recovery disk set for this.
