Alright, I've been sent here by Carbon.
I have an Acer Aspire 5050 laptop, that was originally meant to be just for work. But, The Orange Box came out, and I had to have it. I often play it, but yesterday I noticed it was getting very hot. I spoke to Carbon, who told me to look at the Core temp with SpeedFan, and the last time I checked it, the Core temp was "86C". I spoke to another friend who said that's way to hot, and to have a look in the BIOS to see if there was an option to increase the fan speed. There wasn't, so I did the same in SpeedFan. There wasn't an option there, for me at least. So, I was wondering, is this temperature the norm, or do I need to increase the fan speed? Also, since that last temp reading, I've left it off. |

It's not way too hot. It's well within the design spec's of the Turion be it the dual TL or single MK. Simply put, if the temp isn't exceeding the thermal shutdown temperature then you're fine.
Turion's, of the 90nm variety, which I believe you have going by the laptop's model number are good for 95c. The temp of the cpu is dependent on the chassis's ability to keep it cool, usage, load and ambients. Don't get me wrong it's one of the hottest temps I've seen for a laptop cpu but you may be able to alleviate it with some active cooling, as in a fan base. Zalman do a few good models, as do Coolermaster. I use this for the household laptop. Saw temps drop 6c when running at peak.

Wow, thanks for the reply! I'll order one of those later. Thanks again.

The cpu is cooled separately to the rest of the components via a heatpipe that snakes to the edge of the chassis where it ends in a heatsink, this is then actively cooled and the air is forced out of the chassis.
If the temp was affecting the ram you'd get crashes, if it was affecting the graphics solution you'd get artifacts on screen. If you're getting none of these then it's fine.
