    Hi guys,

My sister's laptop is not charging, it is detecting the power supply, but the charging light only stays on for a second and is orange. The laptop does not work with the battery removed and plugged into the mains.
Any ideas what this could be, I'm stumped.

    Thanks

Well as the charging light comes on I'll assume that the laptop's charging port is in working order, as the laptop works while on external power I'll assume that the charger is good too. So that means that there is something wrong with the battery; it's most likely that the battery has reached the end of it's life. Laptop batteries only last a few years before they start to hold less and less charge until they stop working entirely. If you can find someone with the same laptop as you with a working battery put their battery in your laptop and see if the problem resolves it's self, if it does it means that you need a new battery. You could also test the power supply with a multimeater to see if it's outputting the correct voltage.
