Hi,

Everythings going wrong for me lately!
My laptop [custom build] worked fine this morning, I shut it down, went out for a while and came back to find it not booting up. The power light comes on (if I plug in the power cable the light indicator for that lights up too), the fan on the side whirs like normal and blows out warm air but the display stays black and there are no boot-up noises. The disk drive makes the usual noise and I tried inserting the Windows Vista disk in the drive but nothing happens (apart from the reading noise). Tried pressing some keys on start up but nothing happened and I tried scanning my finger to see if the 'ching' and 'do-doo' Vista noise happened (if it were a graphics problem I don't know if the sound card would be effected?)..they didn't.

Please help!

Any signs of life from the screen ?

Did you try rebooting the machine, with the Windows disk inserted ?

Can you get into bios ?

Screen is pitch black, won't boot from disk, doesn't uhhmm..is it called port or something? Does nothing at all except the little background noise (the fan I think). So no booting from disk, no BIOS, no display at all.

I hate to say it, but it looks like you have a hardware problem.
It could be the motherboard or the display panel, but you have already exhasted the options you can do yourself.

Take it to your local repair shop and try to get an estimate, or if it's under warranty still, send it back.

You could try hooking it up to a monitor through an output on the laptop, could this not verify the issue as to whether it is a hardware or screen issue, or would the monitor need to be setup through control panel?

It may work, but either way it's a hardware repair I reckon.
