Hi, I'm new here!
![]() I was on my laptop the other day browsing the internet and I get this large (inch and a half wide) white bar starting to flicker on the left of my screen. It then dissapeared and then came back as a solid bar. After a while the it flickered again and stayed. I turned my laptop off and when I turned it back on it had gone and everything was fine for a few hours. However now a thinner blue bar has appeared on the right hand side of the screen. Very annoying, and I cannot get rid of it, Tried restarting it and giving the screen a little tap and 'shoogle' but nothing! I attached an external LCD to it and this did not show the green bar so it's my LCD that is the fault here. However the point of me posting this is to find out if there is any way in which this could be repaired or could it be a loose connection? (Not keen on forking out £100 on a new LCD). Any Help with this would be great. Thanks Gav |

Unless you are skilled at component level repair and/or replacing main parts than you'll need someone else to do it. The cost probably outweighs the value of the laptop. If you have a warranty or home insurance that is a better option.

The laptop was worth around £800 new and still holds a value of £350 or around. A new LCD costs £60-120. However seening I connected the screen to an external LCD and nothing appeared on it out of the ordinary would this mean it's only a monitor fault?
Could it just be a dodgy cable? |

Sounds like the screen or similar, as I said unless you buy a new one, take it all apart and fit it you will never know. You may even break it further rendering it completely useless and £120 out of pocket. Laptops can be hard to dismantle and in many cases need special tools to rebuild, I wouldn't advise it unless you know what you are doing or have done something similar before. Paying someone to do it will be more expensive that it is worth.
