Default Water on laptop - boot menu now appears & some keys are dead

hello,

I use my computer for work and pleasure, but I am not an advanced techie so bear with me!

Unfortunately some water got sprayed over my laptop (I know, I know ). It didnt seem a lot but one and a half days on, I still have problems. There was no hissing or funny smells at all. I have generally left it alone and hoped it would dry out.

In particular about 5 keys no longer work. Also the mouse touch pad sometimes works, and sometimes doesnt, ie. the cursor moves around, but to double click I sometimes need to use the click button below the mouse pad (eg when first booting up I can no longer double click on my picture associated with my account to access it). Most of the time its ok though and I can double click with the pad.

Also, when I start the computer up it gives me a Boot Menu, whereas this never used to appear. I choose the first option (there are 2) and it then goes through the usual startup process. I havent lost any data (however I have backed up the recent files since my last backup for peace of mind).

My laptop is an Olidata model: L51II0 (marketing name Tehom 4903). Im using Vista home (Italian version).

I was hoping that if it dried out, the keys would start working again. I must admit I am nervous about prying off the keyboard but if it will help, then I will.

But what is worrying me more is this boot menu that appears. What should I make of this?

Any advice would be very welcome. Thanks
D.

Laptop keyboards and mouse pads are sealed units, so you will need replacement parts, could try eBay.

But, depending on the age of the machine it may not be worth it, parts and labour costs may out-way the value of the machine and even after spending a load of money on it you will have no warranty.

Might be time to replace it with something new.

I agree with dave about getting a new laptop, but if you can't afford one or the new parts then you could always buy a laptop mouse and use the onscreen keyboard for typing.

I must admit finances are an issue at the moment. It's a shame as the laptop is only a year old. I need to be able to type large amounts for my work so an onscreen keyboard doesn't really seem like an option.
I am trying to get hold of a couple of friends who may have contacts in the repair business. I would be interested to get a quote at least. Prices may not be too bad here in Italy, especially through friends. I don't know yet. Otherwise I'll have to bite the bullet and get a new one
Thanks both for replying .

Do you have insurance or anything on the laptop? as I have seen some policies that cover accidental water damage.

Could also try a desktop USB keyboard. Cheap one is about 5 Euro.
