Hey, when I'm playing on my xbox (which shares a connection with my PC) and downloading something on the PC, my Xbox lags terribly, so I thought with my new PC which has a wireless PCI, I can use that for the PC's connection like browsing internet and stuff, and then could I connect the USB adapter to exactly the same network, even though it's the same PC? And then only share the USB connection with the Xbox?

I don't know if it will let you do this but that's why I'm asking really

I'd imagine the lag is down to ISP bandwidth rather than Network bandwidth.

So would I, except that I can quite happily download many things and surf the net while my mum is doing the same downstairs, or I could be on the Xbox while shes downloading something and it wouldn't have the same affect.

I have no idea what you're asking or describing.

Plug both the XBOX and the PC via ethernet straight into the router, or into a switch that is then plugged into the router.

Not an option. Routers downstairs, this is a Desktop PC.

Current Setup:

Xbox plugs into PC via Ethernet.

Shared connection acceses router via Wireless USB.

What I want, but don't know if will work:

PC connected via wireless PCI to router - NOT SHARED

Xbox connected to PC via ethernet, running off USB wireless adaptor plugged into PC - SHARED

Will that work? I just wasn't sure because that's one PC using 2 devices to access the same network twice.

I can't see it happening, especially with a desktop OS.

And I can tell you it will just be a pain in the arse.

How about buying a Linksys WRT54G and installing DD-WRT on it (as described in the sticky at the top of this forum) and setting it in bridge mode?

Then the XBOX could plug into that bypassing the computer completely.

Reluctant to spend any more on it TBH..

It doesn't that much, I just wish I could download stuff without my Xbox lagging, no probs though I'll try this, if it doesn't work I'll go back to pausing downloads when I'm on Xbox lol

I am sure that it would be that your internet connection is actually being throttled out, because your ping would go through the roof when you download.

Why not temporarily plug XBOX in downstairs into router and test there. I guarantee the same symptoms will be experienced.
