Default Can't share broadband connection between 2 PCs

HI there,

I have 2 machines:
-a desktop PC (Windows XP) with address 192.168.2.2
-a laptop (Windows XP) with address 192.168.2.3

My broadband router is a Belkin with address 192.168.2.1

The computers are properly configured, both having a different name and belonging to the same workgroup. However I cannot have both using the Internet at the same time: when one is online, the second one will say "the device is currently managed by 192.168.2. * ", whichever computer is *

As soon as one is disconnected, the other one will connect to the Internet fine. I know it is a simple configuration setting to change on the router but I am an ignorant, so please help me.

If you manually set IPs for each machine did you manually set the default gateway and subnet mask?

Hi,
no, I let the router set IP automatically. Default gateway is the router's address isn'it?
Subnet mask is the usual 255.255.255.0

Cheers.

What changes should I do if any in the manual settings, and how would it enable both machines to access the Internet simultaneously?

Thanks.

JUst put in seperate IPs on the same value as the gateway so:

PC1

IP 192.168.2.2
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.2.1

PC2

IP 192.168.2.3
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.2.1

Thats all you need, also make sure the router is connected to the internet by logining into it through your web browser.

That should work.

DNS is auto, doesn't matter if that is what they are currently setup as.

Purely doing it as manual setup is normally enough to kick everything into life.
