Hello All Here's a weird and wicked problem that has me absolutely baffled. Do you think you could help me solve it? For months now I have occasionally had problems transferring data via FTP to a remote server. This sees to be after leaving my notebook computer idle for some time. I would just restart the machine and all would work OK. Now that doesn't work and I am permanently disabled. I can connect to remote sites via FTP, navigate the files and directories, change file names, download files and delete files- but I cannot upload. I can browse the internet, read pages and do everything you would expect - except submit forms (I had to fill this for in on another computer). I can download and read email but I cannot upload email. Here's what I have tried so far: 1. Clean registry. 2. Scan for viruses. 3. Turn off my firewall and test. 4. Check firewall settings. Note, I have 2 other computers that connect via the same ADSL2+ modem and everything works OK - so I suspect the computer itself. I have Netcomm NB5Plus4W modem/router. Dell notebooks 2 running XP and one Vista. I use Zonealarm firewall software and Avast anti-virus. Any ideas? Thanks Chanetsa

| I'd try uninstalling your firewall completely just to be sure.

I have now completely removed my firewall software and then reinstalled. I then ran Adaware to remove any possible spyware. Neither of these have made any difference. I have also tried Tuneup Utilities 2007 software to clean out my system. Still no luck. Does anyone have any ideas? I am concerned that I might have to reformat my hard disks and start again. It will take me 2 days to get back to where I was and I still won't know what caused the problem. So any ideas will be great. Thanks Chanetsa

Dave Yes, I did. I tried to ftp a file to a remote server while I had no firewall at all and it would not upload. So I installed the firewall again and retried. No luck. Thanks Chanetsa

Interesting. I replaced the modem and it all worked OK, so would appear to be something to do with the modem. Note that of the 3 computers connecting to the internet via the problem modem, the 2 XP notebooks could not send data (eg email) but the XP machine had no problem. Thanks Chanetsa
