Ok, basically, my ultimate goal is to have a static IP on my XBox, so that I can either forward some ports or enable DMZ.

Current IP's are -
192.168.1.15 (My PC)
192.168.1.30 (Laptop)
and I want to assign 192.168.115 to the XBox

BUT, when I do so, it fails to connect, saying something to do with the hardware not getting the static IP from the router, and a load more drivel.

If I then switch it back to auto, everything goes nuts, XBL says it can't obtain an IP, my PC goes barmy because the IP's are conflicting..

Nightmare.

Please save me from my network demon.

Im no expert in networking but I know you cannot assign the same IP address to both your PC and Xbox - (192.168.1.15) You will have to choose a different IP for each device connected and assign that to each of them through the router configuration screen.

PC is .1.15
XBox is .1.115

(PC being 2 digits and the XBox being 3 digits, just to clarify it wasn't a typo )

Ok I just found out that the DHCP range is 192.168.1.9 to 192.168.200

So I think this means I cannot enable a DMZ anywhere inside that range? Meaning I should reset the XBox's IP to something higher than 200

And I'll have my computers lower than 192.168.1.9 to avoid conflict.

I think tha's it sorted I'll get back to you on whether or not it works, but if anythings wrong with what I've said, please shout.. before I screw something else up

Ok my PC is working happily on 192.168.1.5 (before the DHCP range on my router)

I changed settings on the XBox network tab to 192.168.1.205 (after DHCP)

But still no luck. I'm newish to networking really, previously I've just let it sort itself out on automatic.

Should I change the settings on the Ethernet connection (LAN) in the network connection options to match what I put on the XBox?

I think I've tried most combinations, auto on the xbox, manually set on PC etc.

If I switch it back to auto it says the router doesnt seem to be automaticaly assigning IP's.

If it's manual it says it can't connect to router or modem, and PC says theres an IP conflict, HOW?! XBox is 205, PC is 5...?

I'm very confused and need rescuing because I can't use my 360

Ah, XBox now working on automatic, I just restored it to its factory settings.

However my NAT Type is moderate, and I'm guessing it will behave like it did before, switching between moderate and strict, making it very difficult for me to do anything really.

Although its set on automatic, on the computer in network settings, if I look at the IPv4 properties on the adapter going to the XBox, it says its set manually to 192.168.0.1 with no default gateway or DNS.. so, if I changed that to whatever I wanted and set a DMZ on it, but keeping the XBox as it is on automatic, would that work?

Thanks, Ollie.

Ok this is frustrating - I know I've posted loads without anyone else repling but I'm working at a fast pace here and I think it's pointless you answering something I asked two hours ago at which point I probably was working on a completly different track
Just keeping you all up to date with my dilemna. However I am learning more and more - I had it Open for a sec, but then I restarted the tests to double check and it was moderate again.

So anyway. At the moment it's not making any odds what I have enabled (UPnP, DMZ, Fowarded Ports) it's still always moderate. So I don't really understand that.

I think I might have to start rebooting everything every time I try a different combination.

Let me know if you have a theory/better idea.

Thanks again.

It all works.. NAT Type however is Moderate still.. :@

XBL set to Auto, PC setting for the port is maunually assigned, and then DMZ is on that IP.

So I don't really know why it's still Moderate..
