Default Connection problems when enabling security

Hi All,

Can someone please help? I recently hooked up a Belkin wireless router with my laptop and everything was working fine. After enabling the security function I seem to loose my connection. The network wizard displays an error message of 871122. I'm currently using XP Home edition. Not very computer literate. Please can someone help?

Phil,
Thanks for your reply. This might sound mad but I'm using the wireless link at the minute but when viewing available networks it shows nothing. Sorry to be a pain.

It could just be that your Router is configured not to broadcast the SSID .... i.e. the Network Name.

If so that's fine, nothing to worry about, as it stops others seeing your Router in "available wireless networks".

If all is working then leave it as is.

My Router does broadcast the SSID because I can pick it up on my mobile phone.

I'm a bit confused, you say you are on the wireless link at the minute .... do you mean you are connected ok ?
If you are and you had previously set up wireless security (WPA or WEP), I assume you must have seen your Network and when connecting, were asked for your encryption key ?

Give a bit more detailed info on what you have done.

Sorry for the confusion but I'll try to explain it better, When installing the router I used the quick installation disk which came with it. When the router was working and connected to my laptop it still did not show my connection in view available networks but was still working. (sounds crazy) I have now enabled the security on the router and my connection has gone. It is only working by the means of an ethernet cable connected directly to the router. My phone on the otherhand is woking fine. When finding the network it asked me for a WEP key which I entered. For some unknown reason the security function is losing my connection to my laptop.
Hope this makes a little more sense.

OK .... see if you can find an updated driver for you wireless network card on the Laptop and see if this makes any difference.
The fact that your phone is working ok with WEP suggests that the Router is functioning ok.
