can anyone help? Whilst on the internet via my wireless laptop, when I go to view another website, this message is coming up
'Connection Test Failed If your ISP gives you a static (fixed) IP address, please configure the Internet settings on the device (click here to access the web configurator)' and I cannot access any more websites after that. If I shut down my laptop and switch off my Zxyel router then switch it all on again, the internet seems to work again but wondered if anyone knew why it was happening and what I can do to stop it happening! thanks |

If the Control Panel / Internet Settings doesn't say "never dial", make it say that and see if the problem stops. Tell us if it already said that or if the problem persists or if the problem's fixed.

should add, that when that message comes up, the light for 'internet' on my Zxyel router goes out, and it cant seem to let me back on the internet, unless I shut down PC and router and start up again..

Has the Laptop been used previously on a dial-up connection, using the internal modem ?

Laptop has not been used for dial up. It has worked fine for about 1yr and just yesterday has started doing this? |

Okay, it's never dialling, that's fine.
I think you have an ADSL modem, not a cable connection. Assuming that's right, you were provided with a phone socket filter when they sent the ADSL modem to you. Is the filter fitted to the line? OR do you have more than one phone socket on that phone line and you've not put a filter on those others as well? Either would do what you're seeing. If you only have one phone socket and it's filtered, it may be a dead filter (they do tend to be faulty more than most bits of equipment). A replacement is £1.50, you could try picking one up next time you pass a computer shop. Replacement of the filter might clean the problem up. Keep coming beck, we'll get it working eventually. |

apologies for not being totally clued up with all this, but the laptop was set up 1yr ago on broadband with the Zxyel router (prestige 660HW I think - whatever was recommended on this forum!) and then made wireless and has worked fine ever since. This started happening intermittently yesterday (i can get on the internet, view a few sites then it drops out). It was set up as per the instructions that came with the router so not sure about the filter or the phone socket and will need to look when I get home later and then come back on the forum tonight to confirm. thanks for your help so far! |

If it's just the last day or so, and it was working fine up until then, it's a temporary problem with your ISP. You might like to check their status page or ring their support line (if it's not £1 a minute!). The suggestions so far are more relevant to getting something to go that either never worked or got changed somehow. If there's been no change at your end then it's likely to be a glitch at theirs.
The message you're getting is specific to the Zxyel router and it means "I lost my connection" but it's very poorly worded. The reason it lost its connection is very probably outside your residence and not inside. |

thanks. Will see how its working later and speak to Tiscali if necessary. Then move on to the suggestions in the thread if need be. Thanks again. Its great to have access to a forum that can help on these issues.
