i recently updated my mother's computer because it was extremely out of date... when my mother went to get her internet they gave her a usb modem so her driver issue was never adderessed. now she just bought a wireless router which requires a ethernet cable.
when i connected the computer to the modem using a ethernet cable, the modem was not recognized. So than i went to the device manager and under the network adapters only the RCA USB cable modem could be seen. However under "other devices" the ethernet controller and PCI modem was there with yellow "!" marks on them. When i try to update both of these drivers it says code 28 and that i need the installation media. I do not know if i have the installation CD anymore. Is there anything i can do? Also the my computer model is a Dell Dimension 3000 |

the little yellow mark means that the drivers are not installed for the ethernet connection. When you plug the modem into it (once you've got it working, it wont show up, it'll just say network connected etc etc)
Go to this page. Providing you on XP, you want to click the + next to network, then download the one called 'intel driver'. Once you install this it should change the symbol in my devices, showing that it is installed with the correct drivers. Any issues with it reply and will help you further. PS, just like to add, the code 28 just means that the correct drivers are not installed, and it cant find them! |
