I want to be able to connect to a phone that doesn't have a phone port. I want to use what is called an acoustic coupler I know where to get one but I want to see if there is a DIY/MUO/MOD so I can make one out of scratch with out forking over 60 to100 dollars for one.

It does that when users copy/paste from sites using a different font to us. Fixed.

This should also be in Networking. Moved.

Thanks.

And what data transfer speed do you want to achieve? I've successfully used one at 300 baud and 1200/75 split rate and 1200bis but I could never get a reliable connection at 2400 baud with an acoustic coupler even on a home line. I don't think 1200 bits/s is going to get you much data once it handles the TCP/IP overhead. That's effectively 1kb bandwidth.

The reason is that the usual voice channel is only around 5000 Hz wide and however efficiently you pack your tweets and squawks you can't fit much down it.

so I'm stuck looking for LAN, WiFi, and phone ports for my connections? I thought of using a broadband card but it cost too much for so little.

It depends on what you're trying to achieve. Some people need to link through the Iridium communications system, some are less constrained. What problem are you trying to solve?

I just want to be able to use the internet to check my email and such other stuff like My Photography, video, download, and game hobbies can wait when I get home or the vary least find a strong connection. I thought about getting a internet card form a wireless company but I don't want to get bound to a contract or pay for a month of service that I don't need. I found a good dial-up ISP that gives prepaid dial-up access and my minutes would expire in a year from when I buy them. Aside from illegally modifying a cordless phone to to work with my modem and dial from someone else phone who is using a cordless phone I don't know what else to do. thats why I want to use the acoustic coupler because all I have to do is dial my isp using a 800 number via payphone and get internet. And pay phones are everywhere. And about the crodless never crossed my mind I think its sick to do that to someone exept maybe with my house as wireless dial up.

I think what you're looking for is Pay As You Go Mobile Broadband. No contracts, there might be a setup charge of under £50.

how much American is that that? but anyway when I use internet away from my home it's spontaneous. I also know about Circuit Switched Data (CSD) but when I called my wireless company they didn't know what I was talking about and when I said its dial up on my phone they said my phone will tether to my computer but that is broadband not dial up and they seep to think its the same. broadband is faster for one- but that not the point I want to be able to connect to the interned on the field when I need and not add the tethering to my phone and call my wireless company to add it for the day and remove it too much hassle and not keep it on when I don't use because they will charge me even if don't use it. I'd rather use real dial up through my phone, but after broadband few companys know what I am talking about muchless previde it. like AT&T they have CSD blocked. don't get me wrong verizon works well with there services but they get there info from the computer I want to talk to the guy that writes all the stuff.

Are there any cell phones that still use CSD?
