Hey,

I want to hook up a wireless internet connection at my house. I have never had internet at my house before and my computer is out in a shed.

Can i have the telus guy come and hook up a wireless modem without a computer being hooked up? Do i even have to have a telus guy come? Will he need to have access to a computer in order to hook up the internet?

Thank you

But if you can install it yourself just get them to leave the stuff until you have a computer ready.

Thanks for the quick reply.

So i can do all the setting up of the internet VIA wireless(from the shed) once he leaves the equipment?
or will i have to eventually put a computer up inside to set the internet up?
If so do i have to leave it there?

Thank you

It depends on what setup you have and what equipment they are supplying.

But at some point you will probably need to hard-wire a PC to program the router.

Then go wireless after.

Dave, I've got similar problem. I have knackered the ethernet input on my laptop and have been rtold it's an uneconomical repair and my only way forward is wireless. I have researched some Linksys and D-link wireless routers and they seem to concur with what you say about hard-wired to set up and then wireless.
However, what I can't figure out is this: I have Virgin media 20meg BB yet I am posting this by 'borrowing' a kind neighbours Pipex connection (I would thank them but unfortunately I don't know who it is). So whilst what you say is probably correct, it can't be set in stone or else how am I connected to the internet at the moment? I have certainly never had a wired connection to the neighbours router.
I myself would like to know how to go about this as I don't want to waste money on a wireless router that needs hard-wiring first. If it wasn't for the fact that the Pipex connection is only 4mb, and throttled after 1 gig, I would probably not bother, and seek to find the neighbour and contribute to his bill. But I'm paying for 20meg and thats what I'd like (besides the guilt)
So any further advice would be greatly appreciated.
Derek.
