Cable routers only come in "just a router" format, you HAVE to use the Virgin supplied modem.

As for downloading, yes I download at some stupid speeds, I'm on 4mb and downloading directly from say microsoft.com you will get good speeds.

I've never seen anything over 445kb on my kit's.

Still, i'm not downloading video so it doesn't really matter to me. And with my super-duper cpu (soooo chuffed) i can pretty much just leave whatever is downloading going on in the background while i get on with other stuff.

i think Virgin are capping my downlaod speed. cant be from fair usage because i had internet installed friday. all servers max out at 250 then drop to 230 then rise to 250 and so on. it looks like it hits 250 then has to stop. would virgin sort this out as i pay for up to 2 mb?

Tonight I'm only getting 256k speeds and I'm on 4MB.

There are bad days on Virgin but on the whole I have mostly high speed and I have never been capped.

If it does it day in day out call Virgin, they cap bandwidth not speed so it should be faster than it is.

Bandwidth is how much data you download.

The best way to test it is this site, it's the only way of getting a semi-true rating.
