Hello everyone, my family has a Draytek Vigor 2110Vn, my dad said it is very expensive and a really good router, (it's got 3 huge antennas sticking out of it haha)
Anyway, our previous router was crap but the one before was also an old draytek, and before it broke, it could connect through 2 walls to my laptop in my room PERFECTLY. But this new draytek... does not allow any wireless computers to connect to it, I can see it from my room, but cannot connect. Vista just asks me to diagnose the problem and says no response was received from the router or something. We can 'sometimes' wirelessly connect like 2 feet away, but I just tried now and we could not connect to the router from just a few inches away, our living room is like a bloody internet cafe and the dining table is full of computers all WIRED to this stupid router. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!!! Thanks so much guys and girls. Please help us solve this issue we really want to connect wirelessly to it, ask me any question you need and I'll give you the info! Interestingly, even our phones cannot connect to the router, we find it, connect, and 5 seconds later are kicked off and lose connection... Does this narrow it down at all? |

Do the PCs trying to connect have Wireless N NIC Cards ? .... this Router as you know, is Wireless N and although it should be downward compatible, sometimes things go weird.

Also .... I take it everything works fine, when Hard wired. Have you tried turning off wireless security ? ...... any firewall on the PCs getting in the way ? My System: Home Build

N NIC Cards? what are those? and firewalls are off and the wireless security can't be a problem my dad said... as if he knows! I'll have a look at it later but I dont think firewalls are it.

The Router, being a new model, is Wireless N, which is provides faster speeds than Wireless G.
If your PCs have Wireless G Cards, there could be some compatibility issues. I'm not saying this is definitely the reason, but I have a Wireless N Laptop and this doesn't always play nicely with Wireless G Routers. If your dad has set up wireless security, you should be asked for the key, when trying to connect .... is this happenning ? |

You didn't confirm whether the PCs work when hard wired to the Router ?

OK ... well your Dad is going to have to try a few things, just to diagnose where the problem is.
Try turning off wireless security temporarily, to see if this is creating the problem. if so, ask him to set it to WPA Personal TKIP or WEP, altho WEP is the last resort. For example, Windows XP will have problems connecting to a WPA2, secured Network, unless SP2/3 has been installed. |

Dont turn off the hardware firewall on the Router, as this will leave you vulnerable
