Hi there, i'm having a bit of trouble connecting my laptop to the internet. I am trying to use a Lynksis router to connect to the internet. this is what i did:

I inserted 1 of 2 ethernet cables into my modem and connected it to my router as required. The next step on the instructions was to 'connect one end of the included ethernet cable to the router and the other end to the PC'. I had a bit of a problem with this because my PC has no ethernet ports (it is connected to my modem via USB), as it is quite old. I connected the ethernet cable using a USB Ethernet adaptor...

My laptop picks up the router but doesn't connect. If i click on diagnose problem is tells me the Domain Name Server may be down. It won't connect to the internet at all. And neither will the PC unless i disconnect the router (it then obviously connects using the modem). I'm confused... any help? Sorry if this is vague if you want any more info please do ask.

The routers instruction manual will tell you how to set it up, have a good read.
