Help Please. Can Connect to Internet but My Server Can't Be Found.

Hi there
Please can you help with some advice? I can connect to the internet ok with my wired connection but have been able to connect to my server only once since yesterday. I know very little about PCs - just usually switch on and away it goes - so you'll need to guide me through any techie things like pinging and IP addresses. Many thanks in advance. Sue x

Can you elaborate a bit ... i.e. what do you class as a Server ?

Are you trying to simply connect to the Internet wirelessly or ?

Hi, sorry to have been vague. I am not wireless. Can connect to my home page - BBC.co.uk - but not to my 1&1.co.uk server. This means that I cant send or receive emails. I use outlook express. The error message is ... The host 'auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'imap.1and1.co.uk', Server: 'auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11004, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

I checked the spellings etc, and all is ok. Hope this helps to make it clearer.

Best bet is probably to contact 1&1 about it. If you can get the BBC site up the problem isn't on your end.

Maybe you havn't paid your subs or something? Or maybe part of their system is just down, and if you contact them they should sort you out.

Ahhh right you are referring to your email server ... that makes sense.

It could just be that your email server is down or experiencing problems.
If it has connected ok previously with your current username/password and server addys, leave it for a while, mybe until tomorrow and see if it comes back on its own.

Hi thanks. That was my first thought, but I can't access their website to find their phone number, and can't email them either. I think I've paid them - certainly haven't had any threatening letters.
