Pants! Completed all as above and still nothing - same error message which tells me that Village1 is not accessible - so it must know it needs to look there?

Can access Computer 2 from Computer 1 but not vice versa..........

It's a common problem Yvonne with no definitive fix.

Some say it's because a admin password was put on when XP was installed, it's not removable unless you reinstall.

However, I have the same problem on my network, and what I have described today has sorted some of it but I still get the same issue on some machines.

One thing is for sure Vista doesn't have the issue, every Vista machine on my network operates as it should.

Not sure what else to suggest, sorry.

What a shame, but I'm very grateful for the time you've spent helping me. You've been a godsend - thank you.

Will cross my fingers and hope that someone will have a solution for me somewhere........

Thanks again
Yvonne

If you do get it sorted I'd appreciate a post here explaining how you did it.

Thanks.

Hoorah! Have finally managed to network my computers and it was an easy fix in the end..........I hadn't ticked the right box on my McAfee firewall to allow the laptop to have access to the main PC. Once that was done, I was up and running but am now much older and greyer!

Thanks to everyone for their help, I learn so much here and it's wonderful to always have such experts to be able to rely on.

I have set up a wireless network between my two computers one vista and one XP

I can access the shared files from the vista machine on the XP PC but I cannot access the shared files or printer which are on the XP PC via the vista one

I don' think it is a firewall issue (McAfee on both PC,s). Can anyone help please it is driving me mad

Thanks
