Default Home networking issue - "Node type unknown"

Ok, I'll try to make this as short as possible. I have two towers and one laptop that I am trying to network. One tower is running xp pro, the other two are vista ultimate. The vista ones network fine with each other. Node type is broadcast on both. Xp on the other hand node type-unknown. Everything I've read about changing this directs me to a key that is not there.

eg:Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

I'm not sure how to copy the values for you to see. But, none of them are the ones that instructions direct me to look for.
I hope this is enough info. Thanks, ww
