I'd like to block access to a specific website across my entire home network. I'd prefer to do it from one location, rather than on each computer. I have a WRH54G Linksys wireless router; I heard that I can access some central control there to block websites; but I've tried many password combos without success ([none]/admin; [none]/Admin; admin/[none]; Admin/[none]; admin/admin; Administrator/admin; Administor/Admin; ) etc. I'd prefer not to pay for anything, if possible. How do I do this?
I'm using Vista, but I'd like this to work on XP (pro, SP2/SP3) as well. I'd like this to work for IE6, IE7, and IE8 if possible...definately IE 6 and IE7. If it works for Firefox or Chrome, all the better. Thanks. |

Without sufficient access to the hard firewall (in the router) I don't see that you'll be able to do it, without something like Windows Home Server, but I presume you mean just a regular network.
Why do you want to not do it on each computer? Do you have a lot of them on your network or something? Because if it was just a time issue, you might be able to save the settings on a flash drive and just load it up on each PC in seconds.

you could always try resetting your router back to factory settings so to allow you access by typing 192.168.1.1 in IE/firefox etc.
According to google, the user name is either admin or blank (as in nothing there) with the password as admin or 1234 You can then block the website URL in the firewall settings on the router. This is easier than what fordy suggested, but if you still cant access the settings, fordys post is your only real option. |

Yeah, but the annoying thing is that not all routers support manual firewall configuration anyway.
My crappy "Livebox" doesn't, so I have the hard firewall disabled, and Comodo on each PC. I've never had the need to block a URL on my network, so if mctw's post doesn't work, ten I might have to have a quick polish up myself before explaining how its done
