Does the Hughes home package which states it's 20 times faster then 56K Dialup, make a worth while investment? I have never used anything but dialup so, I'm lost when it involves any other type of service. I think their cheapest home version is $69.99 per month for leasing. Thanks for any advice!

Are you referring to the satellite company? If so make sure you note the bandwidth caps and that they use a 24 hour rolling period on there internet. Also this is not a good choice if you are doing a lot of downloads. Once you go over your bandwidth cap you have to stop using for 24 hour hours before your speeds can reach there fastest rate again. If you continue to use after you exceed your cap your service will be decreased to slower than dial up.

I highly recommend you do ample amounts of research before making the switch to satellite.

If there is no other choice than dial up and satellite in your area another alternative is Wild Blue. It is more reliable and uses a 1 month rolling cycle so it is harder to go over your cap. It is also satellite though.

Hope this helps.

Sounds expensive, broadband should cost no more than $20 a month down your phoneline or via cable.

Haha! $20 a month for cable internet? You guys must have it lucky in the UK. You can get it for that cheap as an "introductory offer" if you have phone service with them for a couple months but otherwise and after that it's over $50 a month here. Customer service at most DSL/cable ISPs (typically one of each, no more in anything less than a major metropolitan area) is piss-poor and you'll likely not get promised rebates or rates, and the alternative DSL speeds are horrible ($40+ a month for 1.5mbps).

Created a storm here...

In the UK.

BT do £15 a month, £7.75 on intro.

02 do £12.50 a month, £7.25 on intro.

Haven't looked into it much that was from a quick Google but $69.99 is still a lot IMO. It's £50, how many people do you know paying that a month?

There are deals out there, but yeah, satellite will definitely be more, thats why I said down a phoneline or cable.

I can get full sky HD TV, landline and Internet for £50 or £69.99.
