Hello everyone I'm new on here so please treat me gently as I need some help.

I have a pc with a wireless modem that is connected in a wired format but I have set up a wifi connection from and which I can run two laptops from but not at the same time. For example if the pc is running and one laptop is connected I cannot run the second laptop on the wireless connection.

Should I be able to run both at the same time as well as the laptop if so how do I do it.

Also I've got my kids a notebook for christmas can I run all three at the same time.

Please help me with my question I'm sure you clever folk can help but please say it in simple terms as I'mm quite simple.

He he

Thanks in advance Neil

We need a bit more information .... i.e. have you got a wireless Router ?
If so, is your PC hardwired to the Router ? and have you configured the Router for Wireless use ?

I think what's happening here is that DHCP is configured (on a combination DSL/cable modem and wireless router) to lease only one or two IPs (perhaps exclusively wirelessly), so what's happening is once more than one computer connects wirelessly the original computer gets dropped. It's a weird situation but it would be my guess.

Of course, as philthomas said, without knowing all the specifics about the network setup it's hard to tell.

Thanks for your responses.

My modem is an Echolife HG520S it is connected in a wired set up with the red ethernet cable still connected to both the modem and pc. I set up a wirelss network for the laptops to connect from.

Is this what you need to know, if not explain where I need to look and I'll go and see what I can find

If it helps when I look at the setting it uses a static ip in the properties ont he control panel but the modem obtains the ip address automatically. Could that be the issue and if so if I change it will it enable both to run at the same time?

OK ... your Echolife HG520S is a Wireless Modem/Router, so that clears that issue up.

Can you confirm that you are connecting one of the Laptops wirelessly and it is the 2nd Laptop that is having difficulty ?

If so, can the 2nd Laptop see the Router ?

They both have the ability to connect wirelessly, but when one is connected the second one won't

It sounds as though your Router is configured incorrectly ......I'm gonna take a guess here that your ISP is TalkTalk
..... if so try reconfiguring your Router, as shown here .... the Huawei EchoLife HG520s is the second one down.
