Default Incompatible Modem Drivers For Vista.

Hey all,
Long story short, a few years ago (maybe 05) my parents signed up to telewest broadband which included phone/tv/internet. With the internet came a Motorola modem and a broadband installer cd with the software/drivers. Now this works with XP both of which my old desktop & laptop ran, But for christmas i got a new laptop which is running vista home premium. So i got out the broadband cd ready to install the drivers and software required to use my modem but it says i can only install on operating systems up to XP. So does anyone know what i could or should do? I'm thinking maybe i have to ring broadband and ask if there is a cd with vista compatible drivers/software they could send? or am i wrong in thinking this? any advise will be greatly apreciated, thanks.

Simplest answer in the world - bin the CD. I'm on Blueyonder/Telewest/Virgin too. The CD is entirely Internet Explorer branding scripts. The cable modem works out of the box, read the start-up guide, get the cables in the right sockets, nothing needs configuring least of all in Vista.

That's why I asked, cable modems connected via a RJ45 network lead do not need drivers.

Ay? You connect the cable modem to your network card, then open your browser.

I use the very same modem he does, the software did nothing for me but take up time and space, plug and play through the RJ45 cable..

Check the cables are connected and are not broken?

Cheers for that, i checked my cable and it was a little loose at one end, a bit of electrical tape has fixed that and now I'm back on the net with my new shiney lappy ^_^ All i have to do now is buy a router, I'm going to start a new thread on it now as routers are my weakest point on computers. Thanks again and thanks to Dave & Spot, Your advise was spot on, unfortunately my cable wasn't .
