Ok. I ran a ethernet cord through my attic and into my room to my xbox 360. the xbox is not recieving a signal form the cord. it is hooked up through a netgear ethernet switch and the green light that normaly blinks forever only blinks for about a second then goes off for two seconds then turns back on. when I hook it up to a computer running on windows xp the message says I have little to no connectivty. I also tried resesting the router and used a different cord(the differernt cord works fine). The thing is we cut the wire because it was 250 feet and I only needed about 100 or so and we attached a new thing on the end. we made sure they were in the right order(they went brown, brown white, green, green white, blue, blue white, and orange, orange white) but the wire still is messed up. Is there anything that could be wrong with the wire or is it the ethernet switch. Oh and when the cord is plugged into the computer the green light blinks constantly.

If the different cord works fine then the problem must be the cord. The cord you got may be a crossover cord (very long ones often are) so even though you connected it the same way the middle two wires may be mixed up. Either that or you did make a mistake in arranging the wires or you crimped the end of it badly.

Bottom line, the cord is at fault, either buy a new one or repair the one you have.
