Hi, bear with me 'cos I'm a bit blond. I have a Compaq laptop using Windows XP, and my broadband provider is NTL (I know, I know....). For about 2 years, all the family have had access to the net, but last week for some reason, the other 3 can't gain access, only me.
The only thing I have done is to run a system cleaner - Toni Arts registry cleaner - but if that has done it, shouldn't I have been affected too?
Anyway, the failure comes up as
NTL Netguard
The proxy component failed to initialize. Restarting Windows and running the diagnostic utility could help correct this problem. Ensure no other application is using local port (51201)
When I press for details, (CDInetDApp::SetToListen))
(Desc: A proxy failed to start)
I've deleted their accounts and recreated them with different usernames - same problem.
Anybody to point me in the right direction? FYI, NTL couldn't help, and I was on the phone for about an hour to them.
Thanks people!

The reg cleaner isn't responsible.

If you have a modem and/or router try powering them off for 5 mins, then power them back on and wait 5 mins for them to sync.

This fixes 99% of problems.

Thanks a lot though, I'll let you know.
