| I dont think that the IPv6 is the problem, you are not using IPv6 in your pc, the problem is the configuration of the IPv4... try assigning automatic ips, and if the problem persist try put in them manually making sure that you put in default gateway the ip of your wireless router. ex: IP adress [10.0.0.5] network mask [255.255.255.0] default gateway [the ip of your router] 10.0.0.1 and of course the DNS servers, I usually put the router ip adress in the first one and a random one in the second one: 10.0.0.1 10.0.0.2 even though is good if you ask your inet provider for those... then try to reconnect to the wireless and it should be good. again the ipv6 is optional and is just kind of a replacement for ipv4 but is still not that used by normal users. post the results and good luck. |

| But I have a dynamic IP, surely this method wouldn't work then? |

| are you trying to connect to a wireless dsl modem? or is it just to connect to a wireless router (for a local wireless network)? if you are trying to connect to a dsl modem then you will not have to worry about a dinamic ip anymore. Last edited by Nikronius : 05-01-2008 at 06:01 PM. |

| You use IPv4, IPv6 is newer and not supported by most modems/routers.

| Thanks for the help, but I now have a new problem. It seems all I had to do was to get Vista to reset the IP settings or something and the wireless started working. That's great. But then I connect an ethernet cable from my router to my other computer (one is wireless the other is a desktop) and it says it has limited or no connectivity. And when I try and do the same thing and get windows to repair the IP settings, it is unable to do so. I tried something else and it worked, the desktop was connected, but because the desktop connected, the laptop now has the limited or no connectivity message and I'm unable to get on the internet. Any idea as to what is going on? Last edited by Paul4763 : 06-01-2008 at 04:50 PM. |

| Sounds like both computers are getting the same IP address so one is getting kicked off

| put the ips manually man, usually that solve it very quick, you can copy the ip scheme of the other pc, you go to cmd and type ipconfig, you copy that to your laptop with the exception of the IP adress, that has to be different, just change the last number and try again... usually it works after you put it manually. |
