![]() I think I'm confused even more ![]() How is 10MB equal to 1.25mbps? or is one in bits and the other bytes? So a 10MegaByte connection has a transfer rate of 1.25MegaBitsPerSecond? Or have I got completely the wrong end of the stick? |

| well what carbon is saying to me a 10Mb connection is actually the download speed of 1.25MB, because 10Mb=1.25MB theres 8 bites in a byte, i think i got that right |

| What is the "speed of the service you're getting" if not your download speed?

| Oh, I see. Yeah, they'll advertise whatever the 'maximum' is, it's nearly impossible to get that, but 9.4mbps in reality out of 10mbps in advertising is pretty good.

| NO ..... I think you are mixing up your bits and your bytes. kb = kilobit, kB = kilobyte (note the capital B). I quoted my speed as 2400 kB/s, which is 2400 kilobytes (not kilobits), that works out at 2.34375 mB. If you want an easy calculator to give you kb, kB, mb & mB equivalents, have a look here With Broadband ISPs, they always quote speeds in mb ... i.e megabits, so 20mb connection, for example, is 2.5mB (megabytes) Hope that makes things a bit clearer. |
