Hey all,
My friend Natasha keeps getting disconnected from her Internet. When were talking on MSN she will get disconnected maybe 3-4 times per hour, she says 99% of the time its just her laptop , she sometimes uses her brothers laptop to tell me when her laptop wont re-connect. I thought it was a faulty wifi card, virus, or interference from something but after some Googling and finding some old threads on a similar subject, the answer often seemed to be setting the laptop up on a different channel with the router ? now i've never been a big fan of modems, routers etc so i have no idea how i would guide her on doing this, but if you guys think theres a different solution then id love to hear because , i kinda like talking to her haha cheers guys.

Also are they any good online virus scanners i could direct her to? i know Evil's malware thread would be a good idea but she isnt very patient and knows very little about computers and i cant get to her laptop to do it for her.

You can change the channel when you setup the wireless connection with the standard windows connect to thing.

Have her disconnect from the internet, then (for Vista - you probably know how to adapt for XP/7 if not just tell me which it is) go Start > Connect To

and it will search for networks, then right click the network, so the options for security and I think IP addresses etc. comes up.

You'll also find a drop down box for the channel number - default is usually 11.

I had same problem with mine and I changed the channel and its been ok since. To change channel I just logged into my router using default settings admin and password -> wireless settings. Mine is netgear router not sure if you can do the same with other makes.

1 6 or 11 are the recommended channels, being the 3 most isolated in terms of signal.
