Hi

I have just had to reconfigure my laptop (toshiba satellite A100) to print from my computer's printer, using the wireless network available. Now, at one time, you could shut down the laptop, then restart it and if you wanted to print a document or something, it was fine while the computer was on. Now, I have just had to recently reformat the HD on the laptop and reload Windows XP etc. due to malware/spyware and various other mischief that had been installed by my son and now I find that after getting to access my computers printer to print from the laptop, it does but I have to tell it do it each time I boot the laptop. It seems that now in order to print, I have to now go into my 'network places', 'view workgroup computers', click on the icon showing the computer that has the printer attached and then 'log on' to it, using the relevant Windows 'log on' account details. After doing this, it then says it will install the printer driver for the printer attached to the computer !!!! Then I can print....just wondered why it doesnt save the settings anymore. Is it because I use a password to log on to Windows on my computer that the laptop needs these details to be able to access the printer ?

Not a great problem but just annoying that I have to request print sharing from my laptop every time I use it to print something remotely.

thanks

Dean

Well, I would install the printer over the network.

Make sure the other computer is on as well as the printer, and make sure sharing is available on that printer. While you are there, get the computer name as well as the printer name.

Go to printer and faxes, and click on add printer. Then select over the network. You can browse for the printer using the GUI, but if that doesn't work, you can type in this path and it should then install...

\\Computername\printername

Then set it as your default printer, and you should be good to go.
