It depends a bit on what edition of what operating system you use.

And who owns the administrator password to the router, out of interest?

Are you certain he is getting access to all of your PC ? and he's not just winding you up, after seeing some things on your screen.

Well, with XP Pro you have absolute control of who can see where. You can ask for a list of all shares and check which user is allowed into each. You have complete control over which user accounts can be logged into remotely. You can turn off the services which allow remote administration. You can change all the user and administrator passwords with very little effort.

From the other side, if you stayed with the default administrator password you've been wide open since you started. If you left your machine up and running when you went for a bath then he's been able to add other shares, other user accounts, other permissions, anything he wants.

Have you at least been and looked?

Here, http://labmice.techtarget.com/articl...ychecklist.htm is a good checklist for XP Pro security.

It will show you all the folders which are shared. There shouldn't be more than four or so.

Have a look at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308423 and try out the bits related to shared folders, if you've never been there you don't know yet. Finding out is mostly about exploring.

The alternative is to tie the guy to the kitchen table, show off how you can shave hairs from your forearm with the kitchen knife and get him to confess everything.

Or ... if he's bragging about how he can access your box, set him a challenge and put a txt file on your Desktop called ... betyoucantfindme and put a few choice words inside, then set up a password controlled screensaver set for 5 mins (in case you get lazy) and ask him to find the file and tell you what the file contains.

He could just be competent, of course. In most households it's shockingly difficult to keep security tight enough to stop people looking.
